Filtration

A pool requires a system for filtration. This is comprised of a pump and a filter which must be correctly matched, and have a flow rare sufficient to turn over the volume of the pool once every 24 hours in a pumping cycle not exceeding 6 to 8 hours (normal single speed pump) according to the laws in some American and Australian states.

Be sure that you or your constructor fully understands that a pool must be equipped with a main drain in the deep end and a skimmer in the wall, return jets for the filtered water, and a vacuum port for connecting pool cleaning equipment.

The types of filters are:

• Sand filters
• Cartridge filters
• D.E. (diatomaceous earth) filters.

Our Filtration Guide describes exactly the differences and how to use them. Also in French and in German.

You will find filters HERE.

You will find pumps HERE.

Disinfection

To be safe for bathing, pool water must be constantly disinfected. This process kills most known germs and will prevent the growth of most strains of algae. Pools can be disinfected by hand by adding chlorine powder, granules, or tablets; these are the only products suitable for manual disinfection. Most pools of 50 to 60 m³  (that's a size from about 4 x 10m) will benefit from more accurate automated disinfection systems that are safer to use, are more environmentally friendly, and the types can be broken down into:

• Ionizers
• UV
• Salt water chlorinators
• Ozone
• Combinations of these systems

Our Disinfection Systems Guide describes exactly the differences. Also  in French and in German.

Chemicals

An accurate balance of water chemistry is essential for the filtration and disinfection systems to work properly.

Most important is to accurately maintain the pH level.

There are chemicals that:

Disinfect the water
• Prevent algae growth
• Keep the water sparkling clear
• Stabilise the pH and alkalinity

Our Chemical Guide describes exactly how to use them. Also in French and in German.
