Pool Skimmers
The pool skimmer is the traditional method for drawing to the filter the dust, debris, insects and leaves that float on the surface of the pool water. It's an important piece of equipment because although it works in tandem with the main drain in the pool floor, it supplies most of the water for the filtration system. The essential main drain helps remove dirt and debris that settles on the pool floor.
The waterline should be maintained at about halfway up the skimmer mouth which in Emaux skimmers is about 11.5cm down from the pool edge.
More technically efficient (and more attractive) - than skimmers are overflow pools. The water level is flush with the deck or coping and the debris on the water is drawn from all round the pool. Infinity edge (sometimes called vanishing edge) only have an overflow system along one end or one edge of the pool. Overflow pools have an overflow gutter all round the pool. Both types need a surge tank, sometimes called a balance tank. They should only be constructed by a professional. They also cost significantly more.
At our Thailand swimming pool shop we stock over 20 different types of Emaux skimmers for all purposes. Standard mouth, wide mouth, standard throat, extended throat, long throat All available for concrete or fibreglass and vinyl liner pools.
Heavy duty models for commercial pools come with a choice of square top or round top.
Square top models make it easier to lay tiles or sandstone, granite or marble slabs around them - nothing looks worse than badly cut round shapes in tile-work.
Round top types look nicer and blend in better with copings of sandwash, Pebblecrete, or terrazo.
Installation
In concrete pools, skimmers must be installed before the concrete walls are poured. They must be carefully located, perfectly level, and firmly wired to the rebar.
Some design schematics show the skimmer connected to the maindrain. It is however better to have separate pipes running to the pump room. This allows for a perfect balance between drawing water from the maindrain and on the skimmer. Ask your pool constructor which method he intends to use. If you are building your pool yourself, you can also obtain plumbing schematics from us.
Download the brochures and installation manuals from the product pages. They show all the important dimensions.
Spare parts
At SwimmingPoolsThailand we have stocks of all the main replacement parts of Emaux skimmers. They probably will not fit skimmers of other brands.
