Under normal use and correct maintenance of the pool, the ClearBlue cell can be expected to last from at least 6 months to anything up to 15 months or longer (tested by SwimmingPoolsThailand).

Uneven wear on the cell rods such as one rod being slightly longer than the other, is quite normal. The cell should however be replaced before one rod has been completely used up. If one rod is significantly longer than the other, ensure that they have been correctly positioned in the T-piece.

ClearBlue Inc. does not provide any guarantee on the life of the cell because the life span corresponds to elements beyond their control: Sunlight, water chemistry, algae before using, settings on the controller, number of times ‘Increase’ mode is used, pump frequency and power, etc. Here are 10 tips on how to extend the cell life:

ClearBlue Normal wearNormal wear

1. Make sure both bars are always completely under water (even when the pump is off – the tee must be fully filled with water as your ionizer runs 100% of the time. If the cell is dry, it may affect the wear of the cell.)

2. When tightening the cell in the tee, orient the bars such that the water flows between them or as close as possible without leaking. You may need to add Teflon tape to the threads to give it more ‘play’.

3. Make sure the plug for the cell is all the way in so it is flush with the receptacle. If water gets in there, it can affect the ionizing function

4. Keep it on the Ion/Action setting based on the manual (please refer to pages 7 and 8 of the manual on how to calculate the settings for your controller).

5. Run the pump for 8 hours a day (or up to 24 hours on a low speed)

6. Keep the copper level at 0.2ppm.

7. Cover the pool when it is not in use if possible.

8. Keep the chlorine level between 0.5ppm to 1ppm if copper is within 0.2 – 0.4 ppm range.

9. Use a chlorine or non-chlorine shock once per week.

10. Keep phosphates low (below 100ppb).
