ATTENTION: Copper Sulphate is a very powerful chemical. Do not use without an accurate Copper Sulphate test kit:

Hanna HI-702

or

Microtest

Alkalinity: Do not add any copper sulfate to your pool if your alkalinity is below 50 ppm or above 200 ppm

Chemistry Ideal level
Copper 0.3 - 0.4ppm
pH 7.2 - 7.6
Calcium hardness max. 300ppm
Alkalinity 100 - 150ppm
Free chlorine 0.5 - 1.0ppm

It is very important to keep the water hardness, PH and the copper ion concentration at the right level. The effectiveness of copper ions as an algaecide is related to the hardness of the water.

Copper sulfate is more effective in soft water. The lower the hardness the better. The optimum concentration of copper ions is 0.3ppm to 0.4ppm.

Use a copper test kit

Algicide: Use only as a method to control growth of algae; do not use as part of your regular pool chemical treatment.

Toxicity: Low risk to humans. Highly toxic to fish. Contains min. 98.2%  Copper Sulphate Pentahydrate CuSO4·5H2O

Stains: If dosed monthly there will be a build-up of Copper Sulphate that will turn hair, nails, grout and plaster blue. Copper salts react with Chlorine to produce cupric oxide and and may cause grey/black stains on pool surfaces

Recommended use:

Algae can be controlled more easily and effectively if treatment with Copper Sulfate if treatment begins soon after plant growth has started. Copper sulphate can result in oxygen loss for decomposition of dead algae. This loss can cause fish suffocation.
Initial dose for very green water: 200 - 250gr per 50m3 pool water
Preventative: 100 - 120gr per 50m3 pool water

Application

Do not mix or use in a metal container.

Before application, dissolve the fine crystals in water.
Then, spray or broadcast the solution evenly using a small
pump spreader. (Spray solution from a boat for the
greatest effect).

Only use in areas in which infection is present. Do not use
in bodies of water where fish and/or aquatic invertebrates
reside. The pesticide is toxic to these inhabitants and may
indirectly contaminate water through runoff.
