Although they may have the same horsepower (HP), due to their design, different models of swimming pool pumps and spa pumps can have different flow rates. The 'head' of a pool pump - its height above or below the water level, the distance from the pool, and the diameter of the piping must all be factored into deciding what pump to install.

There is nothing to be gained by installing pumps that are too powerful, while pumps that are under-rated will require filtration times beyond the required 6-hour maximum. For optimal filtration, your pool volume in the tropics needs to be filtered fast - it should be turned over once every 24 hours in a maximum of 6 hours. These recommendations are the result f careful scientific research into the growth rates of bacteria, algae, and other micro-organisms and have been taken into law by the State of California and various states in Australia. Due to inconsistencies in the electrical supply in many areas in Thailand, pumps of 1.5 HP and gfeater should be connected through a contactor. More expensive pumps and those being run through a salt water chlorinator should ideally be furter protected by an over/under voltage protector.

Guarantees do not cover damage to pump motors due to incorrect, unreliable, or inadequately protected electricity supplies.

All swimming pool electrical sorces should be protected by an RCCB (ground fault circuit interrupter (GFCI).

All 380V 3-phase pumps must be supplied through a circuit equipped with 'under-over' phase protection.
