Caring for your pool

Regular pool maintenance will keep your water sparkling clean and safe for bathers. This is an overview of the minimum care and attention a pool needs here in our tropical climate. Anything else you have read on the Internet might not be entirely accurate. We supply all the chemicals and tools you will need and in some areas  of Isan and Loei we can provide weekly, monthly, or quarterly pool cleaning and maintenance services.

Daily: Approximately 30 minutes. Skim the water surface with a leaf net to remove leaves and other debris that have accumulated overnight.

Every three days: Check chlorine and pH levels. This can be done either manually with a conventional titration test kit or with digital measuring devices. Alternatively, you can also read the values via your smartphone if your pool has an Emaux TUYA-enabled pool management system. Ensure the chlorine level never falls below 1.0 ppm and that the pH is strictly 7.2 to 7.6, never higher, never lower. These are the values stipulated by governments of countries that have laws for pool disinfection. To lower the pH add pHminus or install an inexpensive automatic dosing system. To raise the pH add pHplus (soda ash)

Weekly: Approx. 1 hour. Thoroughly vacuum the pool floor and scrub the waterline on the walls. To do this, you will need to adjust the valve setting for vacuuming in the pump room. To vacuum, connect a suction hose to a vacuum opening in the pool wall and move the special suction head on a long telescopic pole. Typical pool vacuums and other maintenance tools can be found in our store or in our online catalogue ,

Monthly: approx. 30 minutes. A sand filter must be backwashed. This cannot be done automatically and requires a trip to the pump room to operate the backwash valve and switch the pump on and off. The filter should be backwashed to 'waste', and 'rinsed' according to the positions of the multi-port valve. A pool should be 'shocked'  by raising the chlorine level to 6-10 ppm, using a shock chlorine. This will break down chloramines and organic pollutin. Use  Calcium Hypochlorite (to avoid raising the Cyanuric Acid level,) or Dichlor which adds Cyanuric Acid to pools that use salt water chlorinators.

CARTRIDGE FILTERS:

Modern cartridge filters require significantly less maintenance than sand or D.E. filters. On average a filter element should last for 2,000 hours of pumping time or longer. (one to two years)  Removing and chemically deep cleaning it every 3–6 months by soaking it overnight in a special cartridge cleaning solution will significantly extend its life. The filter element should cleaned with a garden hose and a special cleaning attachment for cartridge filters.

Further advantages of cartridge filters include the availability from Emaux of specialized filters for specific applications with even finer filtration or impregnation with antibacterial silver ion technology and other active ingredients.

Pool robots: Pool robots are a very popular pool accessory. They automatically vacuum and scrub the floor, as well as the walls and waterline. They also significantly reduce the load on the filter system and decrease water consumption by eliminating the need to backwash sand filters.
